One person was killed and another seven were wounded during a shooting at an off-campus party near Fort Valley State University in Georgia, authorities said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed early Saturday it’s investigating the shooting along Carver Drive in Fort Valley and that the person killed was not a university student.
Peach County coroner Kerry Rooks identified the victim as Tyler French, 27, adding he died around 3 am, WMAZ reported. Several other victims were taken to hospitals.
An alumni breakfast and homecoming parade scheduled for later Saturday morning was canceled by the university following the shooting.
Fort Valley State is a public, historically black university that enrolls more than 2,500 students. It’s located about 100 miles south of Atlanta.
